Could you briefly describe your works and literary career?
Isabel del Río, escritora y lingüista. Nacida en Madrid, he vivido la mayor parte de su vida en Londres, y escribo ficción y poesía tanto en inglés como en castellano. Entre mis obras publicadas, se cuentan La duda, finalista en dos premios literarios, y la obra bilingüe Zero Negative–Cero negativo; mis obras de ficción incluyen Paradise & Hell, Una muerte incidental y El tiempo que falta. Además las colecciones de poesía Ataraxy, Madrid, Madrid, Madrid y Punto de fuga. Soy co-fundadora de la editorial independiente Friends of Alice Publishing.
Isabel del Rio is a writer and linguist. She was born in Madrid but has lived in London most of her life, and writes fiction and poetry in both English and Spanish. Among her published Works are La duda, shortlisted for two literary awards, and the bilingual book Zero Negative–Cero negativo; her fiction includes Paradise & Hell, Una muerte incidental and El tiempo que falta; her poetry includes the books Ataraxy, Madrid, Madrid, Madrid and Punto de fuga. She is the co-founder of Friends of Alice Publishing.
Con respecto a tu participación en The London Spanish Book & Zine Fair. ¿Por qué es importante una feria del libro en español en el Reino Unido?
Why is a book fair in Spanish important in the United Kingdom?
Esta iniciativa cultural de La Tundra está entre lo mejor que ha sucedido en Londres en los últimos años, especialmente teniendo en cuenta el elevado número de hispanohablantes en esta ciudad. Nuestros respectivos países siempre han gozado de una fecunda tradición literaria y artística, y al emigrar hemos traído con nosotros estas tradiciones. Por eso hay tantos escritores y artistas profesionales en nuestra comunidad.
This cultural initiative by La Tundra is among the best things to have happened in London recently, specially as there is a huge number of Spanish speakers here! Our Spanish-speaking countries have always boasted a rich literary and artistic tradition, which we brought with us when we came to London. This is why there are so many professional writers and artists in our community.
¿Qué expectativas tienes de esta feria del libro y fanzines en Londres?
What are your expectations of this book and fanzines fair in London?
La feria será un foro para reunirnos, dar a conocer nuestro trabajo y, sobre todo, aunar fuerzas con otros amigos y colegas, pues tenemos un objetivo común que es contribuir decisivamente al arte y la cultura de este país. No formaremos parte del mainstream, pero ello no significa que no contemos con excelentes escritores que publican en editoriales independientes. Aunque se trata de una feria dedicada a la literatura hispana, también dará la bienvenida a escritores de todas las nacionalidades, pues la literatura será siempre universal. En conclusión, una feria dedicada a la literatura hispana es un verdadero regalo, y les estamos enormemente agradecidos a todos los organizadores.
The Fair will be a forum to meet up, showcase our work and, specially, join forces with other friends and colleagues, as we all have a common purpose, which is to contribute decisively to Art and Culture in the UK. We may not be part of the mainstream, but this does not mean that there are not within us excellent writers publishing independently. Although the Fair is dedicated to publishing in Spanish, it will also welcome writers of every nationality, since literature is nothing if not universal. Therefore, a fair such as LSBF 2019 is a real gift and we are all extremely grateful to all the organizers.

Por otra parte Isabel del Río condujo la mesa redonda ‘The Bilingual Writer‘ junto a los escritores invitados Juana Adcock (México), Leo Boix (Argentina) y Karina Lickorish Quinn (Perú/UK). Los participantes discutieron sus experiencias personales y profesionales resultantes de escribir creativamente en inglés y español, así como en spanglish, y cómo el bilingüismo, utilizado como herramienta artística e innovadora, afecta la identidad.

Additionally Isabel del Rio leaded the round table ‘The Bilingual writer‘ with guest writers Juana Adcock (Mexico), Leo Boix (Argentina) and Karina Lickorish Quinn (Peru/UK). The participants discussed their personal and professional experiences resulting from writing creatively in both English and Spanish, as well as in Spanglish, and how bilingualism, as an artistic and innovative tool, affects identity.
