¿Podrías describir brevemente tus obras y trayectoria literaria?
Could you briefly describe your works and literary career?
Mi producción artística es más extensa que la literaria, ya que a esta llegué recientemente, aunque con gratificantes resultados. Durante los últimos cuatro años vengo desarrollando mi trabajo en torno a la pintura y la ilustración de forma profesional y son estas obras las que me llevaron a trabajar en mis primeros libros; dos de forma independiente y uno, 50 chefs que debes conocer para ser un foodie (el más reciente), junto a Editorial Planeta en su sello Planeta Gastro. Se trata de un libro que encierra multitud de temas desde un punto de vista social a través de la figura de cincuenta cocineras y cocineros.
My artistic work is wider than my writing because I just started to flirt with the idea of being a writer quite recently. I am a professional artist since 2015, and my works on illustration and painting built the bridge to cross to the literature side, write and self-publish my first two books plus the third one, 50 chefs que debes conocer para ser un buen foodie (50 chef you need to know to be a good foodie), published and distributed by Planeta Publishing Group; in this book we find several thoughts about many different areas through the figure of fifty chefs.
¿Por qué es importante una feria del libro en español en el Reino Unido?
Why is a book fair in Spanish important in the United Kingdom?
Pienso que Londres es la puerta de Europa para multitud de temas generados en el resto de continentes, principalmente en África, Asia y América, y en concreto me parece la mejor lanzadera internacional para las letras en español por encima de Estados Unidos, ya que, a pesar de que la comunidad hispana es mayor en dicho país, también arrastra estigmas que no se dan en Reino Unido, un país que acoge muy bien la diversidad de otras regiones a nivel cultural y es capaz de crear nuevos puentes culturales entre lenguas distintas. Por eso, creo que la feria viene a llenar un hueco en Reino Unido que realmente necesita la literatura hispana.
I do think that London is the door of Europe for many cultural aspects from the rest of continents, mainly Africa, Asia and America, and, in particular, I think it is, probably, the best international shuttle for the Spanish language -even ahead the States, because, despite that the Hispanic community is much bigger in that country, at the same time it suffers from a lot of stigmas and cliches that act like a barrier to properly approach their authors and iconic works. It’s different in the UK, a country which welcomes the differences to study, and give them, a privileged spot in the international scene. That’s why I think this book and zine fair is gonna fill a gap in the UK, one very necessary for the literature in Spanish.
¿Qué expectativas tienes de esta feria del libro y fanzines en Londres?
What are your expectations of this book and fanzines fair in London?
Tengo muchas ganas de conocer y disfrutar del espíritu artístico y emprendedor de la organización y sus participantes, los cuales, pienso, si son parte de la cita no es por casualidad, sino porque realmente buscan trascender más allá de sus fronteras de origen en una voluntad de compartir su trabajo con todo tipo de lectores, además de acercarse a una comunidad internacional que se siente ligada de algún modo a la forma hispana de entender y apreciar la vida, en este caso a través de la escritura.
I can’t wait to meet the artistic and entrepreneur soul of the organization, writers and publishers that are gonna take part of the event. If all them are part of this fair it is not by coincidence but because they want to share, far away of their countries, without barriers and in person, their work with as many readers as possible. And, hopefully, all of us we’ll have the opportunity to approach a global community who feels very connected to the Spanish speaking worlds and their own way to live and understand live through books.
