London welcomes the Fifth edition of the London Spanish Book & Zine Fair. Full programme available now. Over two full days of talks, round tables, presentations and exhibitor's stalls.

The Fifth edition of the London Spanish Book & Zine Fair will take place on Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th October 2023. The event will come back to its cosy home at The Crypt at St Peter’s, Walworth, Liverpool Grove, London SE17 2HH.

Way Home is the theme of the book and zine fair and we hope you can be part of it!

With a lineup that includes acclaimed writers Cecilia Szperling (Argentina), Andrea Jeftanovic (Chile), Lucía Asué Mbomío Rubio (Spain) and Ángela Nzambi (Equatorial Guinea), the Way Home edition promises many surprises and encounters: Theatre in Translation with Out of the Wings; Queer poets: Love in a new age; Poetry Open Mic; Writers in no man’s land; Storytelling for children; Paste Up activities and so much more.

More than 40 exhibitors will be present at this year’s book and zine fair. The fair will take place over two full days and the programme will include talks, exhibitors stalls, workshops, an outdoor paste up activity, storytelling for children and a Poetry Open Mic. Bilingual activities (English/Spanish). Indoor Cafe and so much more!

Meet publishers, writers, translators, fanzine makers, illustrators and open minded readers interested in the Spanish language. 

The London Spanish Book & Zine Fair is free to attend but you need to register beforehand on Eventbrite.
Workshops are free and paid and you need to additionally register for each one (check below). Places are limited.

    From Stage to Page: Theatre in Translation, Production and Publication in Partnership
    Roundtable with Louise Curtin (Inti Press) and translators Kate Eaton (Out of the Wings), Mary Ann Vargas and William Gregory.
    Ibero-American theatre collective Out of the Wings (OOTW) and independent publisher Inti Press discuss a partnership that has led to the translation, performance, platforming and publication of a wide range of plays from the Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking worlds.

    Celebration of the life and literature of Consuelo Rivera-Fuentes
    Consuelo Rivera-Fuentes was a Chilean writer, a poet, a son-writer, an activist and a publisher. All those roles devine her life. She had a PhD and was a lecturer at the Open University and other institutions. Consuelo had the audacity to start the first feminist Lesbian group in Chile during the dictatorship. She was the founder and co-founder of several literary groups including the collective Las Juanas and SLAP (Spanish and Latin American Poets and Writers), and her publishing house in the UK, Victorina Press. Consuelo was a warrior to the end of her life. In this event we will honor and celebrate her life with poetry and music. With her long-time fellow writers and members of Las Juanas Collective, Escritoras Hispano-Americanas de la Memoria: Mabel Encinas, Marijo Alba, Isabel Ros Lopez, Denisse Vargas and Isabel del Rio.

    Creating and publishing a multilingual photo book on women’s experiences of migration
    Moving Forward (Salir Adelante/Seguir Adiante) is a multilingual photobook offering a candid and often shocking insight into women’s experiences of migration. It is published in two editions: one in English and Spanish, and another in Spanish and Portuguese. We will pose questions about narrative and representation, using words and images to tell a compelling story, and asking how books may contribute to social change. With Natalia Cintra, Research Fellow at the University of Southampton.

    Lucía Asué Mbomío Rubio. Embracing Identity
    Lucía Asué Mbomío Rubio is a Spanish writer and journalist, with a mother from Segovia, Spain, and a father from Niefang, Equatorial Guinea. As a writer, Lucía has published two books, Las que se atrevieron (Sial Pigmalion) and Hija del camino (Grijalbo). In this presentation, Lucía will analyse her work from the point of view of everyday racism and the search for identity, gender racism and the representativeness of black people.

    Join this conversation between acclaimed writers Cecilia Szperling (Argentina) and Andrea Jeftanovic (Chile) while they talk with Silvia Rothlisberger about the many ways to get home, autobiographical writing and, at the same time, they present their most recent published books, Cecilia’s ‘Las desmayadas’ (Editorial Planeta) and Andrea’s ‘Theatre of War’ (Charco Press).

    This talk aims to give visibility to African literature written in Spanish in order to discuss issues of awareness towards other cultures and highlight the importance of human rights through the arts. With María José Gonzálvez.

    Love In a New Age. Queer poetry
    Roundtable and reading with Sofía Vaisman, Oliver Sedano Jones, Patrizia Longhitano and Leo Boix. Chaired by Natalie Teitler. Four exciting queer poets read a classic Latin American poem they feel strongly about but that is usually read as heteronormative/patriarchal, as well as a poem of their own, celebrating queer identity in the 21st Century.
