Autobiographical Writing Workshop ONLINE in SPANISH with Argentine writer Cecilia Szperling

In this workshop, which lasts four classes of three hours each one, you will develop your autobiographical writing skills. There will be also time for analyzing the participants production and to talk about this literary genre.

Workshop objectives

Finding your own voice through autobiographical writing. The workshop will help to explore what, in some way, is already in ourselves from our personal experiences.

This course is designed for people who want to explore autobiographical writing, life as part of fiction, and may help participants to get started in this literary genre.

  • Finding your own voice
  • Writing from personal experiences
  • Modeling the narrative self
  • Learning to focus and to develop a story

Workshop development

After reading inspiring autobiographical texts, such as Vivian Gornick's The situation and the story (The art of Personal Narrative), the participants will be guided in order to produce their own writings each class. In each meeting, several texts will be read acting as triggers and there will be two in-class writing exercises. There will be a home-writing exercise based on memories and photography. We will talk and produce a writing exercise about the family Atlas.

This workshop is useful for:

  • Learning to focus and to develop a story
  • Discovering the inner self
  • Deconstruct experiences through writing
  • Learning to focus and to develop a story

As Vivian Gornick says: "Memoir is neither a testament nor fable nor analytic transcription. Memoir is a work of sustained narrative prose controlled by an idea of the self under obligation to lift from the raw material of life a tale that will shape experience, transform event, deliver wisdom".
